My experience of making Laundry Soap; courtesy of: [link] CHECK OUT THEIR WEBSITE! They have a ton of awesome things there similar to this.

Background pattern: [link] ~foley-resources

The verdict is in! One two-gallon bucket of this laundry soap lasted us eight months, with an average of six loads of laundry a month (using more than the suggested amount neccessary), I got 48 loads of laundry out of it.

According to the Homestead, where I originally discovered this method, each batch costs about $0.71, at .01 cent per load. A 28 load bottle of Tide costs $9.99, $0.41 per load. I just saved about $20 by using this method, which achieved similar results to name brand detergent.

Try it out! It really is worth it!!

I suppose it says something about me that I don't actually remember the last time I bought laundry detergent.

I use the uberconcentrated stuff I get from the natural foods store; I have very, very sensitive skin, and I suspect even this would be too harsh. :(

Have you ever tried Soap Nuts? They're also amazingly whee. Each one will last about three to six loads, depending on how much water your washer uses; I use three to a load, and they come in boxes of 100. If I use them, I find I don't have to use any fabric softener or anything.

Actually, this soap is VERY mild and according to multiple sources you can use it even with super sensitive skin. Just use a more natural/organic soap (you only need to use about 1/3 to 1/2 the bar if you go this route) if you want to be safer.

Yes, no more paying six to fifteen dollars a month on detergent! This will cost you $0.71 a YEAR! You can't often find washing soda or borax in smaller boxes than what I showed and that will last me probably half a decade if I only use it on laundry.

You can make it really quick too, aside from the 24 hour wait, this took me twenty minutes from start to finish.

You can also use the Borax elsewhere, such as keeping pests away, floor and wall cleaner, getting rid of urine smells, and making slime for Ricky when he's a little older (:
